The National Academy of Construction Safety

A not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting safety in construction operations, is a provider and developer of construction safety training, as well as a source of ANSI, ISO
and other construction safety standards. NACS was founded in 1985 and for almost twenty years has provided safety training to the insurance and construction industries. Our list of clients includes the US Navy, Public Works Department, Philadelphia Shipyard; Egizzi Electric, Allentown, PA jobsite; and A. Servadone, New York office. We have also provided major Site Specific Safety Plans for a well-known Connecticut steel erection company, for two of their jobs with large, well-known organizations. NACS now provides electronic training programs delivered on demand via the internet. NACS can provide interaction with instruction, as well as testing and qualification. We can provide custom, company developed training via our internet training site at a minimal cost. NACS has many associations within the construction, insurance and safety industries. Our Executive Director, Judith Burkart, presently serves as Vice-Chair on an ASCE Construction Institute Committee for Wireless Construction. Because of our associations within the industry, we have many capabilities and access to much information and talent within the industry. Our partnership with the ASSE, provides us the opportunity to sell ANSI Standards, ASME Standards and Crane Standards including hard copy, internet downloads and purchase of standards on secure data chips for the wireless PDA in construction.

Our mission is to provide information, training and materials to make the construction industry safer. Construction is an ever-changing dynamic enterprise. Compliance is simple in concept but resource-intensive in execution. It is no wonder that most organizations use computers to streamline the process. While computers are great for developing questionnaires and checklists, or managing and tracking corrective actions, even notebook computers are too bulky and inconvenient for fieldwork. The result is that most still use a pen to record their observations on paper questionnaires. The small size and long battery life of Pocket Pcs and other personal digital assistants (PDAs) make them attractive for completing audits in the field. Wireless PDA in construction
